    Story

The Maidenhead and District Stroke Club is run by volunteers and self funded through grants and donations. This is our 29th year of serving the community, and we are proud to have been awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, a group MBE.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. The Maidenhead and District Stroke Club supports over 45 members who meet every other Friday. The volunteers running the Club do everything to keep the club going through self-funding, support from local businesses and organisations. The team are amazing and completely dedicated to their members.

Stroke is the single largest cause of disability in the United Kingdom -over 150,000 people a year suffer a stroke, two thirds of whom are left disabled in some way.

An example of its severity:- around three times more women die from stroke than from breast cancer in the UK.

Most people affected are over 65, but approximately 1000 people per year who suffer stroke are 30 or younger.

Recovery and rehabilitation from stroke present many challenges, both physical and emotional. One day fit and well, the next moment affected by stroke, the stroke survivor must come to terms with physical and emotional changes as well as significant lifestyle adjustments - mobility, job, income, dependence, relationships - everything changes!

The Maidenhead Stroke Club aim to enrich the lives of people in the local area who have suffered from stroke by providing a social environment where they can meet other people with similar experiences. The Club offers a range of activities designed to address and engage the needs and challenges of those that take part.

Please get in touch if you want to be part of the team at maidenheadstrokeclub@gmail.com, using the website below or through our Facebook page Maidenhead and District Stroke Club.

Funds for the Maidenhead Stroke Club will go towards the following:

    - physio and speech therapy sessions

    - Christmas party

    - gardening club on the Stroke Club days

    - gardening vouchers for members

    - organised trips, pub lunches and river boat days

    - Fees for hall expenses

    - Transport (£3,000+ per annum)
