Story
9 Day Fundraising Challenge- The Kyiv Duathlon
Firefighters from Penketh Fire Station are challenging themselves to complete a non-stop virtual Duathlon to Kyiv, Ukraine.
From 9th May, firefighters from all Watches will commence a 10 day challenge that will see them walk and cycle a combined distance of 1,580 miles, which is the distance between Penketh Fire Station and Kyiv.
Like many, we have been moved by the scenes unfolding since the invasion of Ukraine. During the chaos of conflict, you will always find firefighters who stay within the war zone, not to engage in battle, but to protect lives and property. Firefighters in Ukraine are currently on the front line of this crisis, trying to protect their communities in the most difficult of situations. However, they are in desperate need of PPE and equipment to better protect themselves and their communities.
We are raising money for Fire Aid and International Development- The charity has been working in Ukraine since 2012 alongside the Ukrainian Emergency Services. During this time, they have delivered a convoy of modern fire appliances, over 4,000 sets of fire-fighting PPE and other essential firefighting equipment. Your donations will help the charity to continue supporting Ukrainian Fire Services throughout the conflict.
As well raising money for the firefighters of Ukraine, we are also fundraising to support firefighters of the UK. The Firefighters Charity provides vital health and wellbeing support for our frontline firefighters, support and control staff. The Charity relies on individual donors to meet the £10m cost of operating it's services, in support of over 55,000 members of the UK’s fire services community. However, the coronavirus pandemic has hit its fundraising hard and the charity needs your donations now more than ever.
All donations will be split equally between both Fire Aid and International Development and The Firefighters Charity. We thank you for your support and appreciate your donations
