Mount Kilimanjaro climb - Please give generously to support a local project.
Dylan, Joe and Sam are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September. We have funded this trip ourselves and wanted to be able to collect some money for a worthy local project in Tanzania.
We are asking for donations to the Maktaba Project in Rombo district on the eastern slopes of Kilimanjaro. This is an educational facility opened in 2022 to educate young people, some of whom were unable to complete schooling because of economic hardship and the need to support themselves and their families.
The Maktaba Project provides a range of educational opportunities for people to complete their courses and get their basic qualifications along with practical courses and IT literacy to help them find jobs. The principal aim of the trust is to promote literacy and provide educational opportunities to children and their families by granting free access to books, learning opportunities and the internet to empower rural Tanzanians with the skill to foster individual achievement, self-esteem, and community development, with emphasis on girls and young mothers, who, in rural societies are given less opportunity when it comes to schooling.
The facility was built with funding from the Japanese government via their embassy in Tanzania and is run by the Maktaba Project Trust. The Trust was started by Tanzanians who have international experience in carrying out humanitarian activities, who have assisted and witnessed how education and training people how to use locally available resources can make economic difference in in the livelihoods of people in poor rural communities.
Further funding is needed to support paying teachers, buying books and general operating costs.
The project has been a success and there is a drive to seek further funding from governments and NGOs to build more classrooms, and these will of course, need more teachers and resources. If you are a business who needs to dispose of old IT Equipment you can recycle it sustainably through CAMARA Education and ask that equipment goes to the Maktaba Project [Camara Education UK Ltd is registered with the Charities Commission (1135540) in England & Wales, Camara Education CLG is registered with the Charities Regulator (RCN 20062088) in Ireland]. They will securely collect, delete data, refurbish, transport to Africa and deploy in the school as they do for many educational projects throughout the continent https://camara.org/.
Please give generously on this funding page to support an important educational project that develops the knowledge and skills of young people in the Rombo region of Kilimanjaro.
100% of all donations will go to Maktaba
