We have been in training for the Eroica Brittannia 2017 Ride 18th June 2017. This was the brainchild of Martha, aged 5 at the time, the youngest of the Haste's. Inspired by her dad (stuart) and Mr Matt who completed the 100 mile Hero ride last year, Martha confidentaly stated that she wanted to do the family ride next year ! so here we are ! As the training progressed and we realised that there was indeed a possibility that we would actually complete the 25 mile bike ride in beautiful Derbyshire, we began thinking of how to make this event even more of a challenge. We have all been heartbroken with reports (and lack of reports in media etc) of the terrible situation Refugee and Asylum Seeking Unaccompannied minors endure.  None of us can begin to imagine how those children survive and what effect it will have on them for the rest of their lives.
Cycling together as a family whilst in training has been a real gift and pleasure. We have all had our training days that have felt tougher than others and its each other that gets us through it. So after chatting with friends who work over in Greece, literally on the front line of such desperate circumstances for unaccompanied minors, we have chosen 2 organisations that do amazing work supporting these children and for us who importantly ensure that monies raised go direct to the need.

Just Cycling 2017 are doing a highly symbolic bike ride, between the 19th-22nd of May, 54 cyclists from 19 nations will cycle from Amsterdam to Europe's heart, Brussels, and back in solidarity with the unaccompanied minors in Greece and to continue to support them by giving as many as possible access to safe, nurturing environments where they can grow and develop.

As Newbie cyclists we obviously won't be attempting such a significant distance - but to be Honest 25 miles is significant and symbolic for the mini haste's 💙 as well as myself ! So we will embark on our own JUST CYCLE to join in this amazing fundraising event.
