Story

This is Jessica. Jessica is 2 years old. Jessica is a Kidney warrior and is asking for some help!

Jessica was born with Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Disease (ARPKD). As a result of this disease Jessica has spent most of her life in hospital. Jessica has had several major/minor surgeries; 2 Kidney removals, 2 x Gastrostomys, 1x Central line, multiple NG/NJ Tubes mixed with several ultrasound, CT Scans, blood/platelet tranfusions and XRays. Hospital has been Jessica’s childhood and is now her life! Jessica is now reliant on Dialysis; and is now at Manchester Childrens Hospital 4 times a week.

Life has been very cruel to Jessica and we’ve had to ask for help, asking for help was not a natural ask but …its been a very long 2years and 8 months. We are struggling. Mum has now lost her job (Ex-Military 14 years; unable to keep working due to the amount of care Jessica requires). Dad has had to come out of work constantly to help with care of the family; mum, son james (9) and Jessica (2).

Jessica is a warrior and tries so hard each and every day. Jessica is always smiling and emits joy wherever she goes! Jessica gives us strength!

We have created this page to help Jessica; to help with her care. E.g Travel costs to and from the hospital about 1200miles each month and hospital food charges, special toys and equipment. To help with her delayed speech, delayed development, to help her learn to walk. To help with days out etc… to make the days she has out of hospital as joyful as possible.

We are so very grateful for each and every donation and thank you in advance. We as a family are exhausted and its been 2years 8months of a non stop emotional rollacoaster. We have no end date and are now waiting for a deceased donor kidney transplant. As mums 9month transplant work-ups came to a frustrating close; when the surgeon missed a vital vein on mums CT scan.

***UPDATE ***July 2024 - after the devastating news of the mums transplant falling through we were given the option to start Home Hemo-Dialysis. This was a strict 4 day a week at Manchester hospital for 9weeks of intense training (Started in Jan 24).

Jess had to undergo an Endoscopy GI Banding due to her Liver failing and causing too much pressure. This resulted in Jess losing 1/3rd of her blood and requiring another blood transfusion- this is not good when waiting for a transplant.

In March 2024 we started Home Hemo Dialysis- mum and dad able to dialysis Jessicas at home.. this allows dad to work (mostly away) allows James (son 9yrs) to go to school and not have the uncertainty if we will make it to pick/drop off at school. Qlso allows Jessica to attend nursery 2 days a week to help with vital development goals.

In April 24 Jess icas birthday month. Jessica took her first solo steps… home hemo dialysis although super scary allowed Jessicas to grow and she responded better than we had hoped.

Things are still difficult and we hope for a kidney soon.

Thank you ALL for wanting to help Jessica!!
