This year, Bluebird Care UK has made a pledge to raise more than £50000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. This will be done collectively.by all 200 franchises. Hugo Mills, director of Bluebird Care Portsmouth and Newforest , will put himself to the test and raise more than £250. He has a great passion for rowing. As a young man, he rowed for the well-known Leander Club and the National GB team. He won several Royal Henley Regatta races. After 10 years of rowing, he gave it up. However, 7 years ago, he rekindled his love for the sport by joining a coastal rowing club in Lymington. To row on the coast is very different than on a lake or a river. More challenging due to the tides .

Hopefully, on Friday 6 September, he will have the benefit of the outgoing tides to take him across to Lymington , a journey what covers 49 nautical miles , ie 89 miles The journey can take between 6 hours and 12 hours. He will launch his rowing boat from Portsmouth Southsea on 6 September at 2pm and row a distance to Lymington. He hopes to do this in 6 hours. The row will be challenging as he will have to cross two big shipping harbours, Portsmouth and Southampton. We will have a support boat to follow him. We will need to have the right weather conditions for it . So no rainy conditions , otherwise he will have to abort the effort and await another 14 days for the right tides, to retry .
