Story

The Steam Rally Day rolls out again on the 22nd June for its fourth year!!!! Where has that time gone! Each year just gets better, seeing these magnificent machines rolling through the Hope Valley.

This year will see us raising funds again, for the Hope Valley College CRY screening fund. A Cause which has touched so many young people in our community. The aim this year is to raise the full £6000!

Hope Valley College have committed to screening their year 11 students every year, and each screening costs around £6,000 for the CRY testing team to come into school and test for cardiac abnormalities that may be undiagnosed.

If you would like to know more about the screenings that take place at Hope Valley College please follow the link below:

Everyone involved in the organisation of the Steam day and the locals that come along have strong links to the Hope Valley, and many have been effected in some way by loss, or a diagnosis of an undiagnosed heart condition of someone young they know.

This year hopes to be even better, with strong man Craig Collins pulling an Aveling & Porter E Type, 1925, 13.8 ton traction engine under his own strength. This will take place at around 15.00 at the Travellers Rest in Brough should anyone want to see this incredible event – ALL FOR CHARITY.

And so here we are again, asking if you would kindly show your support to help us reach this year’s target.

THE PLAN FOR THE DAY

This year is made more complicated by the various planned road closures across the valley, but please come along with your wacky, weird and wonderful vehicles and share this amazing day, showcasing some wonderful sights. Even if you don't have a vehicle there will be trailers for you to jump on.

Start – 11.00am - The Old Hall in Hope.

Stop 1 –12.00 - Bike & Boot Hotel

Stop 2 – 13.00 - Hathersage

Stop 3 – 15.00 - The Travelers Rest, Brough.

Here we will see Craig Collins attempt to pull the whole 13.8 tons of an Aveling & Porter E Type Steam Engine, which was made in 1925 for the Clacton Urban District Council. It came out of service in the early 50's.

Finish – 18.00 - Castleton

We will finish at the Speedwell Cavern overflow carpark for an evening of celebrating with band Corporal Gomez.

Thanks and goodbye until next year!!

Wow, what an incredible day this year for the 2024 steam rally...apparently the best one yet!!!

We are now going to close the Just Giving page, but wanted to say, from everyone involved in this year’s Hope Valley Steam Rally. THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who came along on the day, to everyone who has donated over the last couple of months and to all the Steam family for bringing along their incredible engines.

This day was born because of a certain young man’s total love of engines, oil and generally getting messy and up to mischief, he would blinkin love this day.

Together, we have raised £5,286.68!!!!!

This takes into account, the JG money, cash raised on the day, and not forgetting Fitter Mat tiktok video!!! An internet sensation!

A phenomenal amount of money, which will go towards funding one of the heart screening sessions at Hope Valley College, where the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) come into college to screen our local year 11 young people for cardiac abnormalities in the heart.

Thinking of the all the young people who our community have lost over the last few years and sending love to their families.
