Story
Walk and Talk for Dave - A 44KM Walk from Sleaford to Lincoln City's ground via the Cathedral, on Saturday 14th October 2023.
As many people will be able to relate, there are moments in all of our lives that tear your world apart and leave you feeling grief stricken. On the 19th July 2022 there were a great number of people left feeling this way when the news came through about Dave.
Dave (or Picky as many would know him by) unfortunately, as many young men do, chose to take his own life for reasons that will forever remain truly unknown and never understood. This page, along with what we are going to do next, is about celebrating him, turning our feeling of loss into something more positive and supporting others in similar positions……exactly what Dave would do for others.
As a bit of background, we were friends/brothers of Dave for over 30 years, right through from primary/secondary schools, living together, holidays, stag do’s, being best men at weddings and so much more in between.
Dave was a hero both professionally (if that’s possible) and personally, serving in both the Royal Air Force and moving on to his dream job in the Fire Service. Dave was a friend to many who found it easy to mix with anyone and everyone thanks to his very unique personality. He had an unconditional desire to please everyone…..he always gave and never wanted anything in return!
The one thing we have taken from his devastating departure is how loved our best friend was by so many people and that the person we knew was the person everybody else has also spoken so fondly of.
Dave was a huge lover of sports and a massive Lincoln City fan, even had a terrible tattoo to show for it. His sporting ability was somewhat limited but his sporting knowledge was strangely exceptional.
As a person that gave so much (which also included donating bone marrow to help save a life) we decided it was time to start giving back in honour of Dave and the journey starts here …..literally, walking 44km from Daves home town of Sleaford to Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank stadium via the cathedral!
We are going to be splitting the money raised between two great charities - ‘Mind’ and the ‘Lincoln City Foundation’.
Please join the effort in being a hero like Dave and raising money for two excellent causes!
Love you always our G….X
