    Story

Our precious 10 month old niece Florence has been unwell since before Christmas, she was first diagnosed with pneumonia and was treated in hospital. Louissa's mothering instinct told her there was more to Flo being ill so she kept on pushing for more tests. While in Medway hospital scans detected a shadow on Flo's left lung. After 8 weeks of waiting and tests on 15th of February this year my brother and his wife were giving the heartbreaking news that Flo has a neuroblastoma tumour on her left lung. As a family we are numb that our Littlest much loved family member has this awful disease. Flo is our little spitfire, she is full of life and energy; to see her you would never think she was unwell. Flo has taken the chemo in her stride and not let it stop her being the happy fiesty little girl she always has been. The staff and families on elephant ward have been a massive support to my brother John and his wife Louissa. For 2 weeks Flo was on elephant ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital and She will continue to have her treatment there to shrink her tumour. The care and support the nurses, doctors and even other parents have given the family has been outstanding. One of the things that Louissa and John will need to do is monitor Flo's temperature through out her chemo as it's an indicator that if her temperature is too high, flo could be getting an infection and will need to go to hospital, if it's too low that is also dangerous. On elephant ward the nurses are using desposible thermometers. This can be awkward and take time it also disturbs children who are sleeping and unwell. John and Louissa purchased a digital thermometer for flo, it has been so much easier and quicker just to pop it into her ear and is less likely to disturb a sleeping child, it is also less time consuming for staff. As a family we would like to raise the money to supply 30 of these digital thermometers to elephant ward as a thank you to GOSH nursing staff and the patients.

UPDATE... We have decided to raise our target as we have had such a fantastic response to our appeal. We have managed to smash our original 2000 target to buy thermometers and gone up to nearly 3000 already. All extra money raised will go towards buying age appropriate toys and equipment for the play room on Elephant ward at GOSH. We will purchase all the equipment ourselves and take it to Great Ormand Street Hospitals Elephant ward. Again from all of our family we can't thank you enough for your support ❤❤❤
