Story
We are raising money for our friend and colleague Emma Bevis who has just received devastating and life changing news.
Emma is married to Brian and they have two young sons; Joshua who is 6 and Noah who is 3. She's been in the Ambulance service since 2002 starting at Whitchurch as a trainee technician, and then moving to Hightown where she completed a 3 year degree and qualified as a paramedic in 2009, and we haven't been able to get rid of her since! Emma is very popular, you hear her before you see her and can't shut her up once she gets going! She is always smiling and laughing, and would do anything for anyone as long as they offer her a cup of tea!
Before Christmas 2015, Emma was diagnosed with skin cancer which was treated with surgery. Later it was found to have spread to her lymph nodes which meant more surgery. She recovered well, got the all clear and finally returned to work on frontline duties as a paramedic in January this year. Emma was thrilled to be back on the road following 6 months based in the office which was very frustrating for someone who can't sit still and likes to talk all day long!
Unfortunately in March 2017 she was admitted to hospital with severe back pain and found to have a tumour on her spinal cord which has spread to her brain and caused her to lose the use of her legs. This time it's terminal. She is having chemo to reduce the lesions on her brain, but nothing can be done for the spinal cord tumour, which sadly means she will never walk again.
Despite all of this, Emma has remained positive and her usual bubbly self, but understandably has some low points, especially thinking about her family.
Emma remains in hospital but is hoping to get home before Easter. To do this she will need some help at home so we are hoping to raise money for a mobility scooter, stair lift and some other aids and then perhaps fund a trip to Lapland with her family.
Please donate what you can, and add a memory or funny story for Emma to reminisce
