Story
Over 4000 seamen and women from Dundee served in the naval and mercantile marine services during The Great War 1914-1919 and over 500 gave their lives for their country and for freedom. There is, however, no permanent tribute to their service and sacrifice in the city. As part of the World War 1 Centenary celebrations we have decided to commission a brass plaque which will commemorate them and which will be placed in St Mary's Church, Nethergate - the City's church. We will also be creating a handmade Roll of Honour which will list the names, addresses and units of all those who lost their lives.
Significant funding support has already been received from Dundee City Council, Forth Ports, The Northwood Charitable Trust and the Fraternity of Masters and Seamen. We are now seeking to raise the final £3000 to complete the work.
With your help and generosity we hope to dedicate and unveil the Memorial and Roll of Honour in the spring of 2017.

As a serving Merchant Seafarer for over 30 years, it's good to see something like this finally appearing in Dundee. Keep up the good work.

100 years on, now is the time to do something to ensure all the men, women and children lost at sea or in the Royal Navy, the Merchant Navy and the Fishing Fleet are named and remembered for all time.
