Story
Deepings Swimming Club is a small (approximately 150 swimmers) friendly and very successful swimming club, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2016. The 2016 season was the clubs most successful season with one swimmer selected to represent Team GB in the Junior European Championships and four swimmers representing the club at the ASA British Swimming Championships. The club also had success at the East Midland ASA Championships and the Lincolnshire ASA County Championships along with many Open Meets and Galas.
The timing board at the Deepings Leisure Centre is approximately 21 years old and a significant amount of time is spent keeping it working, and with recent news that the spares are no longer available it is time for the club to replace it. The timing board isn't just for our swimmers - the club hosts it own League Meets and Galas which really help with raising funds for the club. The replacement timing board will need to be compatible with the other existing timing equipment to save having to raise further funds. The new timing board will cost in the region of £10,000.
The club intends to raise this money and have the new board installed by the Rob Welbourn Open Meet in November 2017. **Rob Welbourn is a Paralympian Swimmer who began his swimming career at Deepings Swimming Club. Rob won Gold medals at both the 2004 & 2008 Summer Paralympics**.
The club is taking on a challenge to swim the English Channel and Back in the Deepings Leisure Centre pool within a time of 5 hours. This will involve swimming a total of 2832 lengths of the pool, with all swimmers from the club taking part, from the youngest to the oldest swimmers swimming some of the distance. Club members will be obtaining sponsorship for their participation in the challenge with funds raised adding to the target required.
