Over the last 10 months, in Grandads journey at Rotherlea Nursing Home, I didn't realise just how important this home and the carers was for him. Hearing him laugh, and seeing the love, care and respect that the staff gave grandad in his final hours meant so much to me. Feeling helpless at the time, after grandads passing last month, I wanted to remember his time at Rotherlea and the special team and give something back.

This is why I have chosen my next 25km walk around the North Downs in July 24, which, will be in Memory of my Dear Grandad Dick Whittington, and will at the same time raise vital funds that the home needs to provide other residents with fun, opportunities and gifts to help them in their final weeks, months, days at Rotherlea.

All of the money that gets donated to Rotherlea is spent directly on the residents! To give you an idea, Roughly £1000 a year is spent on making sure that every resident has a present to open on Christmas day and everything else is spent on equipment for activities and days out.

The plan at the moment for the donations money is to build a raised garden space that our green thumbed residents, that now find it hard to join in when we do things at floor level, are able to take part without difficulty.

This will also be the first summer that we have full access to a minibus so there will be lots of trips out while the weather is nice and this is mostly funded by donations.
