Story
David Hill was born on the 17th April 1991 and died suddenly, without warning from Sudden Cardiac Death, whilst playing rugby for the Scottish Parliamentary Team against the Irish Dail and Senead XV team, on a sunny day in Dublin on 19th March 2022, at the age of just 30.
The impact of David's death was felt across his family, friends and colleagues. David was much-loved. David was living his best life; a job he loved and was passionate about, at the heart of Scottish politics, enjoying all that life in Edinburgh had to offer. His life-long passion, however, was for rugby. Murrayfield was his spiritual home and he revelled in both the highs and lows supporting the Scottish Rugby Team.
To mark the 2nd anniversary of David's death, Lesley and I, and other members of David's family plan to cycle from Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh to Donnybrook Stadium, Dublin (320 miles) with the matchball for the parliamentary rugby match on Saturday 16th March 2024. We will visit secondary schools across Dumfries & Galloway, raising funds and awareness as we go. This will be a real challenge as I have only taken up cycling for this recently and it will be in early March, when the weather can be interesting.
All funds raised will be used to support cardiac screening and cardiac health in young people in Dumfries and Galloway, where David grew up. Thank you for your support.

8 months agoThank you all for the tremendous support that you have given to the Cycle4David. Nearly £11,700 has been raised here and combined with donations which went straight to David's Fund from schools, Rotary Clubs and individuals have pushed us to an amazing total. Wednesday 17th April would have been been David's 33rd birthday. It seems appropriate to reveal the total then along with how we plan to use the funds. This site will close on Wednesday. Any further donations should be sent to: https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/david-hill/ Huge thanks R&L

9 months agoThank you for all your support which has been amazing. Lesley and I successfully completed the full 322 miles in the 7 days. We were joined by up to 25 other cycle team members, dozens of school pupils and had a brilliant support team of Lynn, Tom, David, Anne and Lorna. We will keep the just giving page open for the next month and then we will announce the final grand total on the 17th April, David's birthday.
