The Virdee Foundation's Gurdwara refurbishment project in Shepherds Bush

THE CAUSE

The Khalsa Jatha British Isles, more commonly known as the Central Gurdwara London, is the oldest Sikh institution in Europe, with its origins in 1908.

The Gurdwara Sahib has since it’s inception provided support not only for Sikhs for those from all walks of life and cultures. As the Sikh community has grown over the years, many other Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations have opened and the Gurdwara Sahib has regrettably fallen into a state of disrepair.

The lack of building maintenance became apparent due to the incidences that took place on the morning of 20th April 2016 where it was discovered that the Gurdwara had been a victim of crime. The Gurdwara had been broken into and robbed with the thieves gaining entry from broken and unrepaired windows. The images of the damage were shared by the Sikh Media and touched many hearts in the UK and Globally.

Prof. Peter Singh Virdee, Chairman of the Virdee Foundation and the members of the Virdee Foundation saw for themselves the disrepair of the Gurdwara Sahib and have thus embarked on an collaborative initiative to restore and revitalise the Gurdwara Sahib giving birth to “The Central Gurdwara Sahib London Est. 1908 – Seva Project”.

THE PROJECT

By collaborating with the Sikh community the Project will provide a full refurbishment of the Gurdwara from the Divan Halls, Langar Halls and Kitchen to the W/Cs and adjoining areas, to restore our historic Gurdwara Sahib.

The Gurdwara Sahib has supported our community for over 100 years and all that wish to be a part of and assist in funding the project are graciously requested to reach out to The Virdee Foundation.
