Story

Help us support Cachar Cancer Hospital and its mission to provide comprehensive cancer care to the rural community of Assam Province, India.

Empowering the local healthcare wokers and community we aim to train healthcare workers provide point of care radiology devices to take care directly to patients, and support the Hospital to raise funds to build a sattelite cancer hospital built by and embedded in, the local community.

Cachar Cancer Hospital is a non-profit organization built by the community, for the community. Despite being located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the region is plagued by poverty, with 80% of patients being daily wage earners earning less than £95 per month. Many patients travel great distances to receive care, and with high rates of smoking and significant poverty, many present with advanced cancer and are unable to afford even the most basic treatments.

Cachar Cancer Hospital 2007

Cachar Cancer Hospital 2021

Under the leadership of director and surgical oncologist Ravi Kannan, the hospital is working to improve cancer outcomes for the population.

His vision is to build satellite hospitals providing chemotherapy, awareness, and palliative care services close to patients' homes. With your help, we can make this vision a reality.

Your donation can make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. Just $4000 can provide a full course of radiation therapy, nutrition for eight patients for a month, travel costs for 10 patients for a month, home care for 20 patients for a month, and much more.

All funds raised will go directly to practical and wide-ranging cancer care services at Cachar Cancer Hospital. Thank you for your support.

Dr Kannan’s vision is to build satellite hospitals providing chemotherapy awareness and palliative care services close to patients homes embedded into the community long distances prevent patients accessing care and even small sums of money can provide extensive range of services in the Cachar Cancer Community.

What would $4000 buy:

ALL of the below:

• One full course of radiation therapy

• 2 port insertions for chemotherapy

• nutrition for eight patients for a month

• Travel costs for 10 patients for a month

• home care for 20 patients for a month

• Limb prosthesis following amputation for cancer

• Cost of staplers for colorectal cancer surgery for two patients

• Training for caregivers of patients to provide support for their families

Our campaign is to raise funds to provide a community empowered approach to cancer care, providing transport costs skills training to allow patients to live with dignity and resources to support their families to access cancer care, to engage with communities through awareness programmes demonstrations of cancer screening models and training of staff. Simple devices such as portable ultrasound scans syringe drivers and visiting surgical and anaesthetic expertise to train local training doctors is all a vital part of a coordinated response.

Simple oral chemotherapy drugs routinely available for breast cancer patients in the UK are simply unaffordable for this population these simple once a day tablets transform the majority of breast cancer care and can shrink and control cancers for long periods of time where surgery is not possible or the cancer has already spread. Your support will allow us to purchase these drugs at scale and negotiate through market access programmes to achieve the lowest cost medicines delivered to the local population.

All the funds raised will go specifically to this institution and will go directly to practical and wide-ranging cancer care services. We thank you for your support.
