Story
Andy and Helen aren’t your typical swimmers; you wouldn’t catch them in a wetsuit (mostly down to Channel swimming regulations), you wouldn’t keep up with them in open water and most importantly, they are a little bit nuts. But aside from all of that, their one mission is to relay swim across the channel – yes, really!
Helen and Andy met through their mutual love for swimming and proving that they are a force to be reckoned with – shown through the enormity of this challenge they have set themselves.
Helen lost her father to heart disease in November 2013 and booked this adventure shortly after to raise money in his memory.
After Andy’s daughter swam the length of the Loch ness to raise awareness of Help for Heroes, the bar was set pretty high. Andy (under a bit of pressure - who wants to be out done by their daughter?) set himself the challenge of swimming the Channel – and that’s what they are going to do.
Challenge: Swim the channel
Simple: No!
As simple as it sounds, swimming the channel entails a lot of organisation, dedication and MONEY. The fees alone are pretty steep and they need your help. The goal is to hit £1500, but to be clear – funding will be allocated to their crossing fees and all excess funding will be donated, equally between the three charities they are raising awareness for, these are; British Heart Foundation, Heals of Malmesbury and Combat Stress – if you have a spare few minutes, take a look to see who they are doing this all for.
There’s not long until the window of swimming opportunity is upon them (26th – 30th August to be exact), so please give as much as you can to support Helen & Andy on this mammoth challenge. There will be frequent updates before and during the swim which you’ll be able to access.
We are grateful for all the support (financially and emotionally) we can get and look forward to sharing the journey with you all. Thank you! – Big Love, Andy & Helen

9 years agoAs a lot of you are aware, we had to abandon the swim attempt last night because Jackie, our support crew member, became unwell on the boat. She is home safe and OK now. Andy and I are devastated but we are humbled by the support you have all shown. We could not have done it without you and we will try again as soon as we can. In light of us not completing the swim, if anyone would like their donation returned to them please message me and I'll see to it - no hard feelings. Thanks again everyone - Helen & Andy.
