Story

Hi, I am Stefania Dall'Armi, a recent Film Production Master's graduate from Solent University. In the past few years, I directed a handful of short films, a couple of which won awards at the Meath Film Festival (Dublin) and The DVMission 48-hour Challenge (Portsmouth) and produced several videos for CNN International.

I am now raising funds that will allow me to create my final master's short film, 'Black Flowers'. That is not only my graduation film and ticket into the industry, but it also treats important topics and ideas very close to my heart.

What is the film about?

Inspired by 'Black Swan' by Darren Aronofsky and 'Brocken Spectre' by Richard Mosse, this experimental horror story follows a young ethical fashion model Gaia whose life is going to take an unexpected twist after she accepts a modelling job inspired by 'Mother Earth'. As Gaia delves deeper into her role, she quickly discovers a dark side of it.

Why is it important?

It can be argued that we hear stories about climate change almost every day. We have seen documentaries of forests burning or climate catastrophes in Hollywood blockbusters and sadly we have normalised them in a certain way. But there is so much more to unpack.

With 'Black Flowers' I attempt to change the climate change narrative we are used to, providing a new perspective on the issues of the environmental crisis we hear every day. I aim to represent the Earth's suffering, creating an experimental film that doesn’t explain what is happening to the environment but that through the horror genre makes my audience feel the oppression we force on our planet.

Why are we raising £1500?

Making a film is an intricate and demanding process, requiring careful orchestration of logistics, cast and crew arrangements, locations, and props as well as covering post production expenses including promotion and festival submission fees. While we have partnered with our local filmmaking charity City Eye and Solent University for professional guidance, we need your help to spread the word and raise funds for the creation of this ground-breaking film.
