    Story

Barbardiya Nagar Hospital is situated in Bardiya District, West Tarai Nepal. It is a community hospital serving over 75,000 people living in Barbardiya municipality. The next closest hospital is 65km away.

72% of the population are from the Tharu community. The Tharu people are a local ethnic community who mainly work the land. Poverty, poor literacy rate and health issues, such as sickle cell anaemia, are massive factors affecting this community.

My good friend of 20 years, Tirtha Poudel, has recently taken over as Chairperson of Barbardiya Nagar Hospital. He has worked his entire life towards helping poor ethnic communities in Nepal in numerous volunteer roles. His mission now is to improve the outcome for this community.

Together we need to raise £8500 for much-needed medical equipment for the birthing centre, improving facilities and services, and in turn, improving outcomes for the community and the Tharu people in particular.

Can you share our story and help us raise the funds?

All money will go directly to the purchase of equipment.

More on Tirtha...He has served with SPW and PSD NEPAL volunteer organisations. He has also led the JCI Junior Chamber International youth-led international organisation. He has served as Club President of RC Dang 2019-20 and Assistant Governor to Rotary International RID 3292 Nepal Bhutan 2021-22.
