Story
I am fundraising for The Banbury North Signal Box Recovery Group, which is a collective of The Banbury North Signal Box Group the Princes Risborough Signal Box Group (Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway) and other heritage railways signal box project groups.
The project is to salvage, during a 5-day operation:
· The entire lever frame
· The entire interlocking mechanism
· All windows, doors and internal lobby / toilet
· Block shelf and brackets (but not instruments)
· Illuminated diagram (to Banbury Civic Society for local display – may pass to Oxfordshire County Museum Services)
· GWR Cupboards (3 of)
· Roof ventilators
Money raised will be used for:
· Purchase of 2 shipping containers for movement and medium-term storage(@ c.£1500 each)
· Transport to safe storage site (@ c.£500 per container)
Any excess will be used towards:
· Purchase at auction of Banbury North and South box nameplates and any other BNSB artefacts for local display (to be purchased for donation to Oxfordshire County Museum Services)
The Banbury North recovery consortium are thus urgently seeking donations, large or small, to ensure that as much as possible of this now well-loved box lives on, both locally and elsewhere.
With demolition planned for the 8th of October 2016, time is of the essence!
