Iʼve raised £2,417 to support Mountain Rescue on the Isle of Arran (Scotland) and Mulanje (Malawi)
- Arran
- Funded on Saturday, 29th July 2017

Story
On the 14th May, Kirstie and Lucy will attempt to climb all the 700m summits on Arran in a day to raise funds for both Mulanje and Arran Mountain Rescue Teams. Both teams are run by volunteers and dependent on public donations to fund equipment and training. Volunteers give their time to help rescue those who are lost or injured in the mountains that they love.
On Mulanje, the highest mountain in Malawi, mountain rescue services are particularly poorly funded with team members risking their lives to save others with only rudimentary equipment and basic training. They also perform a vital service to their community, supporting others in times of crisis, in a country where there is little or no safety net. Natural disasters such as the recent flooding in January 2015 where 200,000 people lost their homes, saw Mulanje Mountain Rescue on the front line.
All the money rasied by this crowdfunding project will be shared equally between Arran MRT and Mulanje. We've not set up a charity fundraising page, as the Mulanje team are not a registered UK charity.

8 years agoKirstie & I are bowled over by the support, good wishes & hard cash is been pouring in. There's no denying that it was a tough day. 36km and over 3000m of ascent over 17 long hours. We couldn't have done it without the help of many folk, inc Kirstie's partner Mark who drove us to Pirnmill at 4am after a lifeboat callout, & Wally, who physically put us on the summit of A'chir. Our awesome colleagues in Arran MRT were also called out late that night but didn't call us so as not to jeopardise the attempt. Thank you everyone! Keep the cash coming!

8 years agoWowee! Thanks so much for your generosity. Friends, neighbours and amazing strangers have set us well on our way to our target. Thank you. Today we headed out on a training mission in the Arran hills, with moral support from Wally. Lots of ground covered, but wrecked legs, and less than half of the ascent/distance covered that we will do on May the 14th, we are starting to realise the enormity of the challenge we have set ourselves! Exciting, but also a bit scary!

8 years agoHello! Some of you may recall that I raised some money for Arran MRT and Mulanje back in 2015, with a the Trigpoint Challenge. I recently received a letter from the Mulanje MR team thanking us, with an urgent request for funds for training and equipment. So I put my thinking cap on, and put together this one day challenge, that will hopefully inspire people to generously donate once more. I'm over the moon that Kirstie has offered to join me, with this tough crazy lady at my side how can we fail? Departing dawn May 14th!
