    Story

Anyone who has met me has probably heard me talk of Twafwane Pre-School, the small school in Kitwe Zambia that I helped plan and build in 2013 & 2014. Twafwane Pre-School opened in August 2014 and since then 50-60 kids have been attending class every day and have been taught by 2 teachers. Although I am now living and working in a different part of Zambia, Twafwane Pre-School and the children who attend it will always be close to my heart.

Most of the children attending the pre-school come from Twafwane Community which is a community of people who were chosen to be part of a building development because they were particularly vulnerable. The community is made up of ex street children, HIV positive widows with children, orphans living with grandparents or relatives, and those who were assessed as living in extreme poverty. Levels of illiteracy within Twafwane are very high and employment levels are very low. When I first moved to Zambia in 2012, there were children as old as 13 attending 'pre-school' in a wee wooden shack which the volunteer prior to me had started to try and deal with the numbers of children who were not in school.

For the past 2 years, the costs of running the school and the salaries of the teachers have been paid for by my family and friends at home in Ireland. Every time I visit the community and see the kids, I feel so happy that they are getting the chance of a brighter future because of the kindness of people they will never meet. Without funds and support, Twafwane Pre-School can not function so I am again asking for your help to cover the salaries of the teachers. No donation is too small and your support will make such a difference to the lives of these amazing kids

    Thank you
