Story
Amber-Rose Forsyth is a 7 year old girl, one of 3 siblings all with Autism, Sensory Processing disorder and Speech and Language disorder. In July 2016 it was ruled Amber could no longer go to mainstream school so would need to attend a specialist school for her needs.
Amber lives 2 miles from an appropriate specialist school that can meet her needs, which her brother attends that can meet her needs. She had an assessment there, and has had many play mornings there. The local authority has refused her a place at the school saying their own school, which has never met her or assessed her is suitable and cheaper, but 10 miles away.
However, The Local Authority school cannot meet her needs, they do not have the appropriate therapies, want to take away the 1-1 support vital to keeping Amber safe and supporting her to access education, and the impact of her going to this school means that in spite of her severe sensory issues that cause motion sickness and anxiety she would be in a mini bus for over an hour twice a day to attend school. The decision would mean her mother would no longer be able to drive her brother to school, as she would need to be there for all 3 children going off in special transport to school.
This was taken to tribunal and Amber lost, the situation was not helped by the LEA witness who said he had carried out therapy with her and she responded to it when in fact he had only done an assessment with her.
There is a glimmer of hope to take this back to the courts but the legal expertise required is to cost. As a family taking this to tribunal has costs us thousands already and now a lawyer is needed. We simply cannot raise the funds required to support this in the timescales. This really is the last chance to try and get Amber what she wants she has already been out of school now for 7 months, this needs to change.
Please can you help in anyway possible to make Amber's wish come true to go to school with her brother.
