This is my friends little girl, Abbie Kemp who is 2 and a half years old. Abbie has a rare genetic condition which is called 9p Duplication Syndrome. This condition affects Abbie's speech, mobility, health and her general development.

Abbie has come on leaps and bounds and has started to walk, but at the moment she cannot talk or speak any words. This makes communication near impossible, even things like telling her parents when she is hungry, tired, poorly etc. Abbie is unable to interact with other children and her communication is not expected to develop until she is in her teens. The level of Abbie's learning difficulties are unclear at this time but it is likely she will need care for the rest of her life.

The NHS have been great at offering Abbie what they can, but it is evident that she will need additional support and therapy than what they can offer. Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence by aiming to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies.

Here Abbie will get the necessary equipment and support that she needs, to enable her to lead the most independent adult life as possible. I am completing the Silsoe 10k Run on Sunday 25th June 2017 to raise money for Abbie’s treatment at Brainwave.

For anyone that knows me, you will know I love to exercise, fitness classes, weight training etc but I HATE running. I wanted to do something that would challenge me and that if I ever think I can’t be bothered to train, I’ll think of Abbie, get my backside off that sofa and out running. So please dig deep, every penny counts towards Abbie's treatment at Brainwave.
