Story
The pupils of Samuel King's and Alston Primary School are all taking part in a sponsored walk on Tuesday 16th July. The sponsored walk is to raise money for the ongoing learning bus project. This is to turn the bus into a space which all the pupils can use both in lesson and recreational time.
The route the students will take leads along the railway line to Slaggyford train station which is around 4.5miles. Cross Fell and Middle fell students will enjoy a picnic at Slaggyford, before getting a free train back to school. We are really grateful to South Tynedale Railway for their support with this. Flinty Fell and SKS students will stop for a picnic before completing the 4.5 miles back to school, walking a total of 9 miles! We will have a school minibus on hand should we require it.
More about the learning bus
The bus will be used as a reading space, craft area and place for small group activities by our younger children across the primary schools. The secondary aged children will predominantly be able to use the bus during lunchtimes as a much-needed social space where they can chat and play in comfort.
The long-term aim is that the area immediately outside the bus can be developed so that in the warmer months the bus acts as an outdoor space for various activities on the school site.
We are seeking help in sourcing, purchasing and equipping the bus. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
