Story
On August 25th, 2020, our good family friend Malcolm Bass had a devastating stroke whilst visiting us after a climbing trip with Simon. The stroke hit without mercy and flung this immensely fit athlete, adventurer, and National Health Service psychologist into the abyss.
Malcom is making steady progress; however, his rehabilitation remains taxing, with several physio sessions each week, and there is still a long way to go. Fundraising efforts through the Move Mountains For Malcolm GoFundMe campaign have so far allowed Malcolm to begin to enjoy the outdoors again on his specialist off-road wheelchair and continue to support his intensive cognitive and physical therapy.
With the fundraising well under way, the Yearsley family are taking on a challenge in Scotland’s mountains to raise some more much needed funds to support Malcolm and his wife Donna. On Sunday the 19th of September, we will all be taking part in the Skyline Scotland trail races in Kinlochleven. These are no ordinary races, they are tough mountain trail races: Edward and Eleanor will be running The Three Mealls 18km (741m of ascent), and Simon and Sarah will be facing the Loch Eilde Mòr 10km (475m of ascent) race. Between us we’ll be running nearly 2,500m of ascent (that’s a 770 story high building!), and over 56km…… and whilst challenging, these races are nothing compared to what Malcolm is facing.
We would like to use this opportunity to raise awareness about Move Mountains for Malcolm, and to encourage the fundraising to continue! We are running 56km, so maybe you could think about giving 56p, £5.60 or £56: any amount will go a long way to helping Malcolm’s recovery.
As well as funds, the Move Mountains For Malcolm campaign are keen to educate on the FAST protocol in case of a stroke.
Read more about Malcolm and stay up to date with his journey at https://uk.gofundme.com/f/move-mountains-for-malcolm or on Facebook @MoveMountainsForMalcolm.
So, please read carefully, share widely and give generously. Thank you.
