Story

500 Miles of Madness!

Friday May 26th May @ Carnegie Leisure Centre.

As a collective group of 13, we aim to run/cycle a combined distance of 500 miles for two very worthy causes.

The event will see 10 members running (on a treadmill 🥵) between 13-31 miles and the remaining 3 cyclists will complete 100 miles on a stationery bike. 😱

The first cause we are raising money for is for a local Dunfermline boy, Wee Jamie, who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is a muscle wasting disease which effects all muscles in the body including lungs, heart and brain. There is currently no cure for DMD and his family have been told he will face a life of struggle, will be wheelchair bound between 8-10 years old, with the average life expectancy of teens to mid 20s.

To receive treatment to slow down the effects of DMD, Jamie and his parents must travel abroad every 3 months at a cost of £20,000 every time. They have been holding events from football fundays to charity balls to raise the funds needed for Jamie’s treatment since his diagnosis in March 2022.

You can read more about his journey by visiting @Wee Jamies Journey 💚

We are also raising money for a second charity, very close to our heart- Prostate Cancer UK.

1 in 8 men will get Prostate Cancer. Prostate Cancer is a disease that has personally affected members of the fundraising group very recently.

We hope to raise as much money as possible for these two amazing causes. Any donation, no matter how small, will be very much appreciated and get us closer to our target.
