The "second" restoration of ex-BR class 50 diesel locomotive, 50021 "Rodney" 50021 was withdrawn from service in 1989 and saved from scrapping by purchase from Stratford depot by the 50021 Locomotive Association. In July 2014 the locomotive was sold to Paul Spracklen and his team are working on the second restoration of the locomotive. This is under way at Eastleigh Works. The aim is to have the loco operational again in time for the 50th anniversary in 2017/18. We have recently found damage to the crank shaft and the repair needs to be done by a specialist and is a major setback for the restoration project.
