Story

My name is Fr. Danny Pegg and I am a priest in the Church of England. Part of my formation was spent in South Dakota (I am a US citizen also) learning about mission and ministry on the Rosebud Reservation. Whilst I was there, one of the churches I visited was Holy Innocents in Parmelee. The church has just been burned to the ground, with arson suspected. I want to do something to help those people there rebuild and continue in their good work.

I will walk 133km in 133 days - a kilometre for every year of life and ministry the church has been standing - and would love it if you would sponsor me to do this in support of the Rosebud Episcopal Mission and specifically Holy Innocents, Parmelee and its community.

From a friend there:

For 133 years, Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Parmelee, on the Rosebud Episcopal Mission, stood faithfully, first on the east side of the dirt road and then on the west side. Generations were baptized, confirmed, married, and buried from this holy place. Generations came to sing, to worship, to pray, to celebrate, to weep, to simply be with God. And now … this building is gone, burned down this morning. The church made up of the people? That still exists. The mission of the Church? That still exists. But the lovely, old, hornet-filled, creaky building, made up of the original wood? It is gone now. The police and federal agents will help find answers. The people will decide what’s next. For now, we weep and grieve and pray. And then we get right back to work.
