Story
0161 Community Gym
We began with the aim to provide free opportunities and classes to the youth in our city. Running Boxing, fitness and Muay Thai classes across Greater Manchester, in Libraries, Community Centres, and Parks, we have worked with hundreds of young people and families over the last five years.
Since 2019 we have been providing activities and opportunities for our communities, we are currently based in Swinton, Salford. We provide sport and exercise classes along with activities for all ages and fitness abilities across Greater Manchester. We aim to work closely with our communities to ensure that everyone has opportunities on offer to work towards becoming empowered members of their communities.
The gym offers a much needed positive environment for young people in the area, providing a safe space where they are encouraged to develop their physical and interpersonal skills, as well as building their confidence and self-esteem. The facility is a safe space for youths to come and talk confidentiality about any issues they might be facing to our mentors and volunteers. 0161 Gym provides classes open to the public as well as closed sessions with schools and youth sports teams.
Our ethos has always been about improving lives in the community, both physically and mentally, and our dedicated volunteer coaches provide boxing classes for people from all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or physical ability.
The gym has proven to be a great success over the years and, due to where we are up to with the journey of the gym and as we expand our work we are now looking hold other fitness-related activities such as yoga, pilates etc. So that we can offer a wide variety of classes and sessions to local people.
With the expanded area, we'll be able to introduce more classes, enhancing the fitness experience for all. Similarly, this will create additional opportunities in our community space, where parents and families gather while their children attend classes.
Your contribution will not only facilitate our growth but also enable us to better serve our community. Join us in making fitness accessible to all and creating a welcoming space for families to connect and thrive.
