Story

Hello and thank you for visiting me and Uncle Craig's just giving page.

My name is Jack Robby Massey, and I am writing to you today because I would like to take a minute of your time to talk about my cousin, James Hawick, and bone marrow. Bone marrow is really important because it means that when you get ill then your body looks after you, but for some people it doesn’t work like that. When James is ill, his immune system doesn’t help him, and if he gets ill with even like a cold he might not be able to get better. It’s really annoying because we have been playing out in the summer and it’s been great but James can’t. He is in hospital and he really needs to get better so we can all just do stuff.

So what needs to happen is that people need to get on the list to give bone marrow. The Anthony Nolan Trust are the charity in Britain that have a list for people aged 16-30, and they are asking for help to get people on the list and also to raise money because it costs money every time to put someone on. We are thinking about what we can do to help James and Aunty Catherine and Uncle Ivan and also all the other people that are sick and families that are sad because it’s not fair. So my Uncle Craig says that to try to get people to donate bone marrow he is going to climb up to the top of Ben Nevis every day for a whole week! He says that he is really scared of heights and maybe it’s just that some people are scared of hospitals that they don’t want to donate bone marrow, so he will climb up Ben Nevis every day and hold up a message for all the different people about how important it is because they should get up and sign up to help all the sick people. And the thing is that you only need to do a saliva test and send it back to join the bone marrow register, and even if you are old, like over 30 or something, there are other registers too, and for people all over the world, and we want to make sure people know all about that, and we will have all the stuff that people want to know. And also we will set up a site for giving money so if people want to help The Anthony Nolan Trust then they can give something, anything they can, to help because they do loads of stuff to help and it’s a shame that not everyone gives them something to say thanks for being at work so long and doing all the stuff so that people can get better. Anyway, that’s what I want to say and just help please if you can because it’s really important.
