We are one of Glasgow's oldest Charities, established in 1874 before the NHS and Welfare State, sadly our aim of alleviating poverty in the City is still the same. People are referred to us from agencies working with vulnerable people. We support some of the poorest individuals and families who cannot get help from any other source. We do not receive funding from any local or national government. The money we need to help those in need comes from capital investments made in earlier years, bequests, legacies, and donations. We often describe ourselves as the 'Small charity doing big things for Glasgow'.
Our support is normally basic items such as cookers, washing machines, beds, furniture and flooring. Within one week we can be delivering items to a family that make an immediate impact on their personal situation. We also support families with supermarket vouchers to buy food as this is an ever-increasing plight for a lot of people. At Christmas we provide Vouchers and Gifts to those most in need for Christmas morning. There are 37,000 children living in poverty in Glasgow today.
We also process around 15 community grants annually to benefit the wider community with projects, educational grants, transport, and other needs.
If you or your company are looking for a Charity of the Year or doing some fundraising activities, we would appreciate you keeping us in mind as a potential beneficiary and we would welcome a conversation with you.
