Story
Hello, my name is Chloe, I’m 9 years old, I’m from Rotherham, and I’ve just been selected to go on the holiday of a lifetime to Florida!
At a young age I was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that begins in infancy, and I have spent a great deal of time in intensive care units. Right now though I am very much looking forward to the annual Destination Dreams holiday, which is happening THIS December!
Destination Dreams is an annual 7-day holiday to Florida, organised
by Caudwell Children. 25 children with life-limiting conditions spend time with
their favourite Disney characters, play in the water parks, eat great food,
enjoy live entertainment and see the sights - and the great thing is that the
whole family get to come too! Plus, we are fully supported for the duration of
the holiday by a dedicated team of Paediatric Doctors and Paramedics.
My Mum, Julie, was delighted when I was offered a place on
the trip, but now she’s in a race against time to raise the necessary funds to
cover some of the cost of the holiday.
As she explained: “It costs the charity on average £10,000
to take each of the 25 families on this once-in-a-lifetime holiday, which
includes the full medical team. These professionals are available 24/7, which
gives families like ours real confidence. Every day is a struggle for Chloe, as she requires a great deal of care.''
Caudwell Children’s Chief Executive, Trudi Beswick, is
urging the community to get behind Chloe's appeal. As she explained: “For many
families caring for children with terminal or life-threatening conditions, the
thought of leaving the protected environment of their home town, and their
regular medical support, fills them with dread.''
Thank you for reading my story and I hope you are able to support me.
