3GT 10k!
On Sunday 27th September 2015 THREE GENERATIONS of females in the Tooley family (3GT) will be walking 10 kilometers across London (10k) to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
That said, that’s not quite the whole truth. Just ONE generation (Me) will be walking whilst pushing my Mum (Sylvia) in her wheelchair and carrying my daughter (Philippa) in a back pack. The day of the walk will be when Philippa is 356 days old, so nine days short of her first birthday, making the weight of Pippa and her harness the best part of two stones. It’s also the day before Sylvia’s 62nd birthday; she suffers from secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, something there’s no cure for, and she’s unable to walk on her own, so any funds raised may just help others in future not have to take to four wheels to travel 10k.
The walk will be along the river Thames, starting at Tower Bridge and ending at Battersea Park and it’s part of the MS Society’s ChallengeMS fund raising initiative.
MS Society is the biggest charitable funder of MS research in the UK. Right now, the charity is investing over £15m into 70 research projects. And until we find a cure for MS, every penny really can make a difference:
Around £10 pays for a gym ball for MS research studying how physiotherapy can improve quality of life for people with MS.
Around £200 pays for one hour of MRI scanner use, enabling us to carry out trials and understand causes and symptoms of MS in more detail.
Around £1000 pays for one month’s laboratory equipment for the MS Society Tissue Bank, providing researchers around the globe with tissue samples used to improve understanding of MS causes.
Little by little, step by step, we can stop MS. But we need to continue funding world-class research that moves us closer to this goal.
That means with our 3GT 10k we’re aiming for the top, £1000 (including gift aid), so please give generously and if you’re a tax payer, ensure you Gift Aid your donation which will help no end to get to the target.
