Story
The Sea Cadets is a nationwide voluntary youth organisation, open to young people aged 12 to 18, Marine Cadets for young people aged 13 to 18 and with Junior Sections open to those of 10 to 12 years of age, run by enthusiastic adult volunteers. It’s parent charitable organisation is the Marine Society and Sea Cadets, whose role is to provide personal development opportunities and support in a maritime context for young people and professional seafarers from all the sea services.
As the Area Officer for London, I am lucky in that I have seen, first hand, these cadets and enthusiastic adult volunteers in action. It has never ceased to amaze me just how much time and energy is given freely by the cadets and adults involved. Their dedication, enthusiasm and sheer hard work would put many paid employees in other industries to shame; I am sure, and as a charitable organisation the Marine Society & Sea Cadets simply would not function without them. They are not rewarded financially, and rely completely on charitable donations and sponsorship to continue to function. With 45 Units around London and Essex we constantly need financial support and are grateful for all of that we currently receive. However, like most charities, it is never enough and we currently seek funding to purchase a much needed support/PR vehicle to help us support Sea Cadet Units and increase awareness for both youngsters and adults of what is one of the UK's most exciting but best kept secret. Please help me to raise the funds that this fantastic charity so richly deserves.
