Adrian and I are crazy enough to be entering the London Triathlon again
this year. As the 40km cycle was clearly not enough for him last time,
Adrian is also taking on the 1.5km swim! That just leaves me the 10km
run...
We are taking part on behalf of Small Steps again. For
those not familiar with this charity they provide creative, progressive
and fun physio to pre school children who have cerebral palsy and other motor
related disabilities. But their work extends much further than their
weekly 2 hr sessions - staff are always there to give help, advice and
support. This is invaluable to a parent dealing with the shock of a
newly diagnosed child. Small Steps also offers the opportunity to share
experiences with other parents in the same boat and for their child to
make friends with children who share the same challenges.
Although we no longer attend sessions because Edie is at school we have kept our links with the Putney based group. Anita came to school to run a workshop aimed at giving an insight for parents and teachers into the way in which children, like Edie, cope with day to day activities and the implications it has towards learning. This is an area which I would love to see Small Steps develop as their working practicies are so important to children throughout their development and could have far reaching benefits within school. But Small Steps rely totally on donations and to spread their expertise further they need more funding to employ more practitioners - this is where you come in!.......
They
fill an enormous gap left by the NHS so please check out their website
to find out more. I know many of you gave generously last year, so
whatever amount you can pledge would be very gratefully received.
Donations can be made on this page or
Adrian's page.
