Story
Roses 2017 sees us using our biggest platform to raise awareness of the positive link between sport and mental health and to fundraise for York Mind and Lancashire Mind. Sporting rivalries aside, this is a joint campaign between York and Lancaster students to make sure that we are working as #OneTeam to end the stigma that surrounds mental ill-health.
Mental health is an issue close to the heart of every student in the UK. Too many times at University we see those we love and cherish living with mental ill-health and not being able to seek the support they need or speak out about the challenges they face. We at York and Lancaster want to state that IT IS OKAY to talk and that IT IS OKAY to not be okay.
We will be fundraising before, over, and after the weekend to make sure that we raise as much money as possible. This is the perfect opportunity to make a positive difference by supporting two fantastic local charities who do a huge amount of work in their local communities.
York Mind and Lancashire Mind will be present at the Roses 2017 Opening Ceremony on the University of York Heslington West Campus, as well as throughout the duration of the weekend.
The Roses 2017 Opening Ceremony: Friday Night Festival on 28th April is FREE to attend for all, and we would love to see as many people coming together from the community of York. This event is fully accessible to all and will be a great opportunity for York to celebrate the fantastic sporting achievement of both universities as well as raising awareness and vital funds for these two incredible charities.
We welcome donations of any size, both online and across the weekend. We look forward to sharing Roses 2017 with you and working to end the stigma surrounding mental ill-health.
