Story
Many girls across rural Nepal fail to attend or participate in school activities during their monthly period as they lack access to modern sanitary pads and personal hygiene facilities. Missing weeks of valuable schooling throughout the year, girls are at risk of dropping out.
This contributes to lower education levels in girls and creates a vulnerability to trafficking and early marriage.
PROJECT DIGNITY aims to improve the lives of women by:
• Allowing girls to stay in school and manage their periods with dignity, using our free, washable sanitary kits.
• Providing a dignified form of income for exploited women in Kathmandu, by paying a fair price to make them.
One kit comprises two sanitary pad holders and eight pads and will be distributed through schools, in partnership with Village District Nurses, who will also teach about female health.
With each kit costing US$10 to manufacture and distribute, we aim to help 1000 girls to continue their education.
