Story

There are currently more than 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK. The number of people being diagnosed with dementia is growing, and it’s anticipated there will be one million people living with the condition by 2025.

Going into hospital can be a very frightening and disorienting time for people with dementia, but there’s lots that can be done to make their stay easier, such as making the environment as calm as possible and training staff in how to care for dementia patients. Improving patients’ surroundings can also make a big difference to their speed of recovery, as well as helping sleep patterns and encouraging appetite. That is why the WISHH Charity has adopted this project as its first appeal.

All the money you donate to this appeal will be used to support a range of improvements within ward environments, including reminiscence areas, local artwork to stimulate memory and provide familiarity, and other environmental improvements such as décor and mood-lighting.

About the charity

WISHH stands for Working Independently to Support Hull Hospitals. We fundraise to complement and enrich the services and facilities at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospitals, over and above what can be achieved by the NHS alone, for the benefit and comfort of patients and their loved ones.
