Story

Wearside Women in Need are a local charity, for local people.  We have helped families escape domestic abuse since the 1980's and we rely heavily on our supporters at key times of the year.

With recent devastating cuts to funding we have been forced to streamline services, closing our homeless drop-in service and young women's refuge in Sunderland.

We still operate and maintain three refuges across the City which are currently filled to capacity with women and children in the build up to Christmas.

We also operate outreach services across the City for men and women who suffer domestic abuse.

We are looking to raise funds to enable the charity to support everyone we work with who needs additional help and support this Christmas.

We provide gifts for children from birth to 18 years, as well as gifts for the parents who are overcoming abuse, we also provide food hampers to those families who need extra support.

Where possible we also look to treat the children to trips to the pantomime and other Christmas activities to ensure we maximise their enjoyment of what is a festive period.

Any donations will make a huge difference to services and the individuals we work with on the front line.
