The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profile100 years ago the Suffragettes used deeds not words to win the right to vote for some women in the UK, however in 2018 women around the world are still four times more likely than men to be abused, intimidated & prevented from voting.
For instance, in Pakistan, female voter turnout was as low as 3% in recent elections. UN Women is working to give every woman & girl this fundamental right, but we can only do this with your support.
Join us and fundraise for UN Women’s programme ‘Enhancing the Political Participation of Women’, funded by the Global Fund for Gender Equality.
The goal of this initiative is to support countries where female electoral turnout is extremely low such as in Kenya, Pakistan, Egypt, Haiti, Afghanistan, Mali & Nigeria; the funds will be used to address some of the core challenges that prevent women from exercising their legal vote through:
- Information - Provide free, transparent and unbiased information for women on their electoral rights and how to practically exercise their vote
- Research - Build data to show undemocratic regional trends in countries that result in low female voter turnout
- Protection - Use locally staffed toll-free help-lines to identify, resolve, and prevent violence against women trying to vote
- Training - Tour remote regions to set up centres for debate and education that increase women's likelihood of voting. To install training and resources to empower female candidates for office and enable greater political representation by women
Fundraising enabled UN Women to establish the first Egytian Feminist Union & election watchdog at a critical point in Egypt’s political transition; 500 womens groups were created to educate women about their rights, bring a unified voice, as well as ensure fair & safe practices across the country. This enabled 2 million women to receive the ID card they needed to vote.
