Story
UCF established the WILD LEO Ranger Education Fund in 2015, in partnership with Dr Andrew Lemieux, to provide higher education scholarships for Ugandan wildlife rangers. To date the fund has contributed to fourteen scholarships for twelve different beneficiaries, all of whom are making it their life's mission to tackle wildlife crime via the enforcement of the criminal justice system at all stages - from investigation to prosecution. The recipients have performed exceptionally well, earning top marks in their class, both in Uganda and abroad. The fund helps rangers achieve educational goals that may not have been possible without financial support, and equips them with the knowledge and skills they need to increase arrests and convictions.
All donations made to this campaign will go directly to Uganda Conservation Foundation, with no more than 10% of donations going towards the cost of managing the fund and at least 90% of donations going directly to the scholars themselves to pay tuition fees, buy books, and cover incremental costs such as graduation fees and photocopying.
The Fund is supported by private donations, fundraising efforts, and co-financing by the UK Government through the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund. We have identified a target of £2,500 in order to allow us to complete funding on all scholarships identified between now and Sep 2018. Please help us raise this funding shortfall and make a difference to combating wildlife crime in East Africa!
