Story
I am Imani Summer, a fundraising volunteer for Tyneside & Northumberland Mind and mental ill health survivor. I took part in Mind's R.E.D (Run Every Day) January where I met some awesome people on social media. We biked, walked, swam or ran every day in January to earn our well-deserved medals and get our endorphins pumping. Brilliant friendships were formed and we decided to organise this BOOT THE BLUES fundraising walk.
I am doing this walk with my friends, local NHS trust staff and others who want to support us to help raise funds for mental health services in the North East, to help raise awareness of mental health and to have some fun along the way.
SO PLEASE DIG DEEP INTO YOUR POCKETS AND SUPPORT US IN THIS POSITIVE and ACTIVE CHALLENGE.
Mental health issues are not something that just happen to other people...it could be your friends, family or colleagues suffering privately, or even yourself. There is NO SHAME in needing help and support and seeking it.
We will be donning our hiking boots for a 3 day trek (28 miles in total) along Hadrian's Wall from 15-17 Sept 2017. To walk, chat and fundraise for TYNESIDE AND NORTHUMBERLAND MIND.
Tyneside and Northumberland Mind provide mental health support and services in our area, but rely upon donations and fundraising. We are fundraising specifically for Alnwick Safe Space drop-in service which benefits the Northumberland local community so every penny and every donation truly matter - thank you.
This event is being jointly organised by myself (fundraising volunteer), with help from Lee Walker (community fundraising coordinator), to ensure everything is all planned out and goes smoothly for maximum enjoyment over the three days.
If you are interested in joining the hike, you can join the full walk or just come along for a day or two.
