Story
Angela's story can be read here
We are raising money to expand our child protection programme so it doesn't just reach children on our family support scheme, but we can also extend our prevention of sexual violence training to all the children in our partner schools and we can follow up on accounts of sexual violence about or from children outside of our family support programme.
The elections are coming this August. The last one was peaceful, the one before brought complete chaos to Mathare and as a result there were hundreds, if not thousands of women and children raped. We would like to start our training as soon as possible so that as many children as possible can be sensitised and protected from sexual abuse. Our work persuing abusers will start immediatley so, in partnership with the authorities, we can get as many as we can out of the slums before the elections.
£20 can help a child who has been the victim of sexual violence for transport to his or her sessions with a specially trained counsellor,
£30 will support a child to attend a three day prevention of sexual violence course.
£50 can provide emergency housing for a child or family who need to be protected from their abusers,
£100 will support our child protection officer for a week,
£150 can print a run of posters informing children of their rights and where to go to get help,
£200 can pay for one of our social workers to attend further training.
£300 is enough to organise a community meeting
The more we raise the more children we can protect. Angela's story is not unique, but we feel the more aware a community is about child sexual abuse, the more protected the children. Mathare has an estimated population of 400,000.
On behalf of the Tushinde team and all the children in Mathare who have no protection thank you.
