Visit the charity's profileEighty percent of us now live in cities, but our urban green spaces are facing more and more threats from the climate, diseases and developers. This results in us losing our natural space at a time when it is most needed as issues such as warming, air pollution, flooding, biodiversity loss, obesity and psychological well being continue to worsen.
Trees for Cities began in 1993 when a group of students decided they wanted to see more greenery in the cities, so began throwing raves to raise money and plant trees! Since then, they have engaged over 70,000 people to plant over 650,000 urban trees in parks, streets, schools and housing estates across the UK, as well as internationally, revitalising these areas and improving the lives of the people who live in them.
And now 24 years later, they are going back to their roots, as students from Fresh Student Living are fundraising for them across the UK to plant more trees and continue to improve the quality of urban green space.
It will be a fantastic opportunity for students to make a difference to the environment of their futures and leave a lasting legacy of trees.
