Story
Since the end of June this year our main contractor has been replacing the ten decayed windows on the sides of our church building. The new windows are made of steel, are double glazed, and provide much more by way of ventilation than we had before. We have also created two beautiful new self-contained toilet units, one of which is disabled accessible. We have also created an absolutely beautiful and fully-equipped kitchen and servery, which will make hosting events on the ground floor a real joy. Furthermore, while the church has been closed, we have installed a new lighting system in the worship area, as well as a five-metre electrically-operated screen and cinema-style projector. These updates have substantially enhanced the usefulness of the building both for the congregation and for the local community, and particular our many user groups. While we were undertaking the work, we realised that the guttering and down-pipes around the church were substandard, and were probably responsible for water that we have been getting into the walls of the worship area. Therefore, while we had the scaffolding up, we decided to properly upgrade the guttering and down-pipes in cast iron, ensuring that the water issue is properly resolved. We also discovered that our problems with drainage in the upstairs toilets and sinks was due to a badly designed drainage system at ground and first floor level. Therefore, we decided to restructure that drainage system, while the open works allowed us to do so. Finally, we wanted the building to have high-speed internet capability on all floors of the building. Therefore, we had the necessary data cabling installed on all levels to permit that facility. These upgrading works have incurred us the additional costs. We are now seeking donations from our community to help us cover the costs of this supplemental, but essential, £12,000 of works. Thank you for looking at our appeal!
