Story
1956 - What a year!!
Elvis released his first UK chart hit, 'Heartbreak Hotel', the Copyright Act was introduced and the first solar powered radios went on sale. It also saw the birth of Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Mel Gibson and none other than Tall Ships Youth Trust! (formally Sail Training Association)
Combine all of that with the new range of mountains in Antarctica that were also discovered in 1956 and it's reasonably safe to say that we reached great heights (excuse the pun) in this year!
To celebrate the proud history of our charity, we are encouraging all of our staff, volunteers and supporters to raise money or make a small donation, connected to our birth year.
You could donate £19.56 (or £1956 if you really want!) or walk 1956 steps a day for the week. Perhaps you enjoy rowing and want to travel 1956km? We've even got someone baking cakes, which we will most likely eat at 19:56 for pudding just to make it fit in with the theme!
Whatever you can do to get involved, themed or not, all of the funds raised will go towards helping provide sail training experiences to many disabled and disadvantaged young people across the UK; adventures that provide them with a safe environment to learn life skills such as team work, communication and ultimately, self-confidence.
Our young people go out into the world better equipped to deal with emotions and real life problems, ready to break down the barriers they face in society and strive towards their true potential.
We cannot give them this opportunity without your support.
So please, take photos, share your fundraisers and have fun raising money to change lives!
