Story
In 1987, Bernard Tickner, naturalist and founding member of Suffolk Wildlife Trust purchased part of a disused gravel pit and gifted it to the charity. This was to become Lackford Lakes, one of the Trust's most important nature reserves. Rich in wildlife and a hub for environmental education, the nature reserve is flourishing thirty years after its conception. The Trust is delighted to celebrate the anniversary with an opportunity to grow the 323 acre site by 77 acres.
In 2017, on his 93rd birthday, Bernard Tickner was awarded an MBE for his services to nature conservation and the Trust is grateful to him once again for a generous gift to kick start the fundraising campaign. Now we need to raise a further £200,000 to complete the purchase.
