Story
For nearly 30 years St Cuthbert’s Centre, home to Refettorio Felix, has been dedicated to improving the lives of homeless, vulnerable, elderly and socially isolated people. We offer a mental health service, counselling, advice on housing and employment, and computer skills, as well as shower and laundry facilities and free clothing. Every lunchtime we provide a hot, nutritious 3-course meal to over 80 homeless, isolated and hungry guests. Last year alone we saved 18,000 kg of surplus food from going to landfill and served 16,630 zero-waste meals. We meet the complex needs of various groups, including rough sleepers, the elderly and those with mental health issues.
The Refettorio Project is a collaboration between Food for Soul, the NGO founded by Massimo Bottura, the London food waste charity The Felix Project and St Cuthbert’s Community Centre. The project also provides a range of other services including washing facilities, one-to-one counselling sessions, assistance with job searching and computer skills and arts workshops.
It costs the project £12 to feed and offer other services to one guest for one day. Any contributions you can offer will help us keep our guests well-nourished and cared for, and ensure this pioneering project remains sustainable, can train and employ staff and create a vibrant hub for the local community.
Thank you!
