Story
Head and Neck Cancer affects the mouth, larynx (voicebox), pharynx (throat), nose and sinuses and salivary glands. The number of people getting it is increasing each year, more than any other cancer in some countries. The types of people getting it are younger and may not have the same risk factors (smoking and drinking) as used to be the case.
The head and neck cancer centre based at James Cook Hospital has a large, multi-disciplinary team to support patients diagnosed and being treated with head and neck cancer.
Through peoples generous donations our head and neck fund helps provide technology and training to support patients either diagnosed with or treated with Head and Neck cancer. By buying equipment and bringing people together we aim to provide the best care available anywhere.
Current projects are using iPads as patient communication aides, supporting head and neck awareness days, training staff to provide speech and swallowing rehabilitation.
